Was that something you always wanted to do?This particular job? No. When I left high school many, many years ago, I went into a job as a diver. I started before I was even old enough to work legally as a commercial diver.
I worked for a company up in Maine that didnt really care that I was underage. Then, as soon as I turned 18, I started diving in oil fields and spent four years in the Gulf of Mexico and four years in the South China Sea. And then finally got around to going to college. The training wasnt all that helpful to me at that time, so I switched over to biology and became a biologist. Got a PhD in applied ecology and eventually wound up here. What was it particularly that led you to write the book that you did?Probably a few different things. One, I thoughtand thinkthat its a really attractive topic.
Of course, other people have done books on ice and snow and things like that, but as far as I know no ones done a book like this on cold. And it struck me as something that people would enjoy reading about, and, just as importantly to me, something I would enjoy writing about. So I kind of looked at the topic and said, Hey, this would be fun!, and it would allow me to focus on the topic of cold and learn a lot and enjoy a lot of Replica Chopard watches different things. And part of it is living in Alaska because youre constantly confronted by cold here, even in the summer. And what I mean by that is that temperatures are very low in the summer, but all around you there are animals that are obviously coldadapted, theres mountains that are carved out by glaciers, theres snow visible all the time from the mountains that you can see from my house, theres plants that have obviously adapted to the cold.
